Will Vinton's Claymation Easter (1992)

Will Vinton has been one of the top craftsmen in the art of Claymation (his most famous creation is still the California Raisins). But whereas Brit Nick Park (the Wallace and Gromit videos) tells warm, inviting stories, Vinton's films still adhere to the comic-book world. Technically wonderful, Vinton's tales are cruder. Like Mad magazine, that's half the fun.

Adults and older kids should get into this hip, Emmy-winning tale of the Easter bunny much more than a younger audience. When the wicked Wilshire Pig figures out he can make millions impersonating the Easter Bunny, he kidnaps the kind soul and goes through painful lessons on acting like a bunny. Somewhere between Tim Burton's macabre imagination and Looney Tunes' shenanigans, Will Vinton's creations live. However, Vinton's creations do not develop the heart of Burton's creations. Like Wile E. Coyote, Wilshire Pig has many lives and doesn't learn anything. Not that that's bad; it just misses the mark.
